4 Natural Remedies For Sensitive Teeth

May 29 2023

Do you ever feel your teeth tingling or in pain when eating or drinking something hot or cold? There is a good chance you do, as 1 in 8 people experience teeth sensitivity. People are quick to ignore the temporary sensation, but sensitive teeth can actually impact your day-to-day life. If you feel this pain with certain foods and drinks, it’s likely you are going to start avoiding them. That could mean your daily hot coffee in the morning, the occasional ice cream with your grandkids, and more. We have good news, though. There’s no need to give up life’s small, simple pleasures! There are some effective natural remedies you can use to help reduce your tooth sensitivity and get back to the things you love.

  1. Take Your Vitamins- tooth sensitivity can be a result of some vitamin deficiencies. Make sure you are taking a daily vitamin to help. Vitamin B specifically is believed to help with teeth sensitivity.
  2. Homemade Rinses- There are some natural mouth rinses you can make at home that have often been effective in reducing tooth sensitivity. Two of these rinses are honey and warm water, and a salt water rinse. Honey is a natural antibacterial and can help increase oral healing. Rinse with honey and warm water to help reduce any issues causing tooth sensitivity. A salt water rinse is a popular rinse for many oral issues as well. You can mix salt in a cup of warm water and swish it around in your mouth for thirty seconds before spitting it out. Salt water rinses help reduce inflammation and tooth sensitivity pain.
  3. Green Tea– green tea has amazing properties that have been studied for numerous health benefits. It is known to help reduce inflammation and help increase remineralization. Drink unsweetened green tea twice a day to help alleviate teeth sensitivity. Green tea also provides antioxidants that can help kill harmful bacteria in your mouth.
  4. Certain Spices and Oils- did you know there are a handful of products in your kitchen that can help with tooth sensitivity? That’s right! You don’t need to go any farther than your own kitchen. Chewing on raw garlic or using a garlic paste releases allicin which can kill bacteria that can be contributing to your pain. Turmeric is a spice that has anti-inflammatory properties and can be massaged on your teeth to alleviate pain or used as a paste twice a day. When it comes to oils, coconut oil and clove oil can help reduce tooth sensitivity. Clove oil can be dabbed onto your tooth with a cotton ball, or you can chew on a clove. Coconut oil can be swished in your mouth in a process known as oil pulling and will promote oral health and help reduce sensitivity.
