How long have you been a licensed dentist?

Dr. Bologna graduated from dental school in 1995 with honors, was an associate dentist for 2 1/2 years, and has been the owner and sole dentist at Distinctive Dental Solutions for over 21 years.

Where are you located?

Distinctive Dental Solutions is located in the “On Broadway” complex on the east side of Broadway in Crown Point, located just south of the Strack and VanTil Plaza, between 109th and 113th Avenues. The complex sits between Tech Credit Union and Hubinger Landscaping. Visit the contact us section of our website to view directions and a map to our office. Families from the entire Northwest Indiana area call DDS their dental “home”. We look forward to you being part of our dental family!

Do you offer extended hours?

Yes! We offer a variety of convenient appointment times to fit your needs. Some of the convenient hours we offer include early morning hours on Tuesday and Thursday and evening hours on Monday and Wednesday. In addition, each procedure completed at DDS is custom planned to provide the right amount of time for the complexity of the procedure. This allows us to make the best use of your time in our office and give you the best experience and end result possible.

Do you have experience working with children?

Yes, we are a family friendly office! We have patients ranging in age from 3 to over 95 years old – and all ages in between! We work with parents to determine a child’s ability to begin care at DDS. Some children are able to complete every procedure at their first visit, while others take time to develop a level of comfort. We do only as much as any child is comfortable with and develop with them over time. We will begin by familiarizing your child with the office and checking the development of their teeth.

Can you help me conquer my fear of the dentist?

Fear of the dentist is very common. In fact, it is estimated that over 30% of Americans avoid dental care because of fear. At DDS, we have found that our “dental care partnership” approach is very effective at using knowledge and understanding to overcome fear in the vast majority of cases. A small percentage of patients, though, are so apprehensive that we find the need to use orally delivered medications to allow them to sleep through dental care procedures. We are very successful at DDS with patients of all types, but our caring approach and ability to truly listen to our patients allows us to succeed with even the most challenging fears.

What kind of cosmetic dentistry do you perform?

At DDS, we see all of dentistry, as we practice it, as cosmetic dentistry. From the hygiene procedures, tooth colored fillings and crowns, to the veneer restorations and full mouth rehabilitation treatments we provide – we are helping our patients become healthy and vibrant! We are ready to help you discover and attain your goals, too!

Does your office offer tooth whitening?

Yes, we offer a variety of whitening products and services, including the latest Zoom whitening system and custom-fit whitening trays. At DDS we see predictable, superior results using our professional products and services, as opposed to over-the-counter products that are often dangerously misused and deliver inconsistent results. In addition, to help our whitening patients be as comfortable as possible, we have built a simple treatment plan that involves home care steps before and after whitening services, which allows them to get the best results available while minimizing sensitivity.

Do you handle implants in your office?

Implant dentistry is a very exciting, continuously evolving branch in dental care. At DDS, we are knowledgeable in many areas of implant placement and restoration using implanted fixtures. We are also aware that some very complex cases are best planned and executed using a team of talented specialists in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontics, and Prosthodontics. The best practitioners know when to seek help to get their patients the best end result possible.

Do you accept insurance? Are you in-network with any insurance plans?

We accept all insurance plans and are able to process claims with your insurance. However, we have consciously chosen not to participate with any insurance providers. At DDS, we believe in creating a one-on-one dental care partnership with you. We want to help you discover, plan, achieve, and maintain your dental health goals. We have found that all “in-network” plans are an active third party – that intentionally undermine and restrict our ability to provide the care our patients want and deserve. Because of the restrictions that these “in network” plans have, we cannot expect to participate in them and still expect to help you achieve your goals. We will work for you to get all of the benefits from any primary and secondary insurance to which you are entitled, while still maintaining our integrity and putting your needs and desires first. Our financial coordinator will be happy to answer any of your specific insurance questions.

Will you accept my secondary insurance?

Yes, we will process your secondary insurance claim after we receive the initial claim back from your primary insurance carrier.

What payment options do you offer?

At DDS, we decide together the amount and type of dentistry that is right for you based on your goals; therefore, we are able to provide a plan that can be phased over time to achieve those goals. Our financial coordinator will sit down with you, listen to your needs, and help you work out a financial plan to meet your dental health goals. Some of our financial options include, short-term in-house payment options, along with long-term 3rd party payment options.

Can I pay with my flexible spending card?

Yes, we will make arrangements so you can use your flexible spending card to pay your patient portion due.

How often do I need to see a hygienist for cleanings?

Many years ago a Crest advertisement dictated that the interval is once every six months, or twice a year. However, at DDS, we believe that the best way to determine the proper interval between hygiene appointments is to base it on your individual needs. We see hygiene patients in a range between one and four times per year as dictated by our patient’s objective dental health, their individual goals, and dedication to their own dental care regimen.

What will happen at my first appointment? Should I be prepared for a cleaning?

Because we treat you as an individual with unique needs, we will not provide any treatment until we know that you will benefit from the care delivered. We dedicate time in your first appointment to listen to you, discover together your current level of dental health, and help you pinpoint your dental goals. By doing this, we are able to build a plan for your individual hygiene and restorative needs, and help you avoid paying for any unwise and unhelpful treatment.

What types of new technology do you use?

DDS is dedicated to having the best available technology only when it can improve the treatment that we provide for you. Acquisition of technology alone is worthless – using technology to improve our ability to serve you is invaluable.
